The Centre For Food opened on the Durham College Whitby campus in October, 2013. This post-secondary facility is focused on the field-to-fork concept, based on the harvesting, storage, processing, packaging, sale and consumption of food – in particular, the production of local food for local consumers.
The entire Centre For Food facility was designed to fit in with its rural setting and merge with the natural landscape. It was vital for the flooring system to be functional from an educational facility requirements standpoint, but also work to enhance the other interior finishes.
The Stonhard team recommended a system of Stontec EFC and Stonseal GS7, which was installed in the atrium, hallways, wine tasting lab, main lecture theatre, and in the washrooms.
Stontec EFC is a decorative, high performance seamless flooring system that is suitable for application over properly prepared concrete.
Stonseal GS7 combines superior chemical and abrasion resistance with excellent adhesion and resistance to ultraviolet light. As a general service urethane coating, Stonseal GS7 is designed to improve cleanability, and increase abrasion and stain resistance.
